Written By Michael Kitchen
February 18th, 2010

The International Monetary Fund said Wednesday that it plans to sell 191.3 tons of gold, likely on the open market, pushing spot prices and gold-miner shares lower. The value of the planned sales would be worth about $6.19 billion at current prices, according to CNBC. The sales would follow the unloading of 212 tons of IMF gold to central banks, part of a gold-sale program approved by the IMF's executive board in September of last year.

February 18th, 2010

South Carolina Rep. Mike Pitts has introduced legislation that would mandate that gold and silver coins replace federal currency as legal tender in his state.
As the Palmetto Scoop first reported, Pitts, a Republican, introduced legislation this month banning "the unconstitutional substitution of Federal Reserve Notes for silver and gold coin" in South Carolina.

Written By
February 18th, 2010

Images taken by the Hubble Space Telescope have revealed some unusual and colourful changes to the surface of Pluto.

Nasa says the dwarf planet on the edge of our solar system is becoming increasingly red. Its illuminated northern hemisphere is also getting brighter.

Nasa's scientists believe these are seasonal changes - as the planet heads into a new phase of its 248-year-long seasonal cycle.

Detroit Schools Offer Class in How to Work at Walmart

Written By Muriel Kane
February 18th, 2010

Walmart has been widely condemned for offering its employees only low-paying, dead end jobs. Even President Obama criticized Hillary Clinton during the 2008 presidential campaign for having served on Walmart's board and stated that the firm ought to pay "a living wage." In inner-city Detroit, however, where the unemployment rate is estimated at an astonishing 50%, the prospect of a Walmart job may appear far more attractive.

Foreign Demand for Treasury Securities Falls

Written By Martin Crutsinger
February 17th, 2010

The government said Tuesday that foreign demand for U.S. Treasury securities fell by the largest amount on record in December with China reducing its holdings by $34.2 billion. The reductions in holdings, if they continue, could force the government to make higher interest payments at a time that it is running record federal deficits.

Google Bans DVD Critical Of Obama Administration

Written By Paul Joseph Watson
February 17th, 2010

Google has sensationally banned all sales through its shopping merchant of a DVD critical of the Obama administration under the terms of its program policy which bars any material deemed to be “advocating against a protected group”. Apparently, Google considers the government to be a “protected group,” and immune from criticism.

The Media Response to the Growing Influence of the 9/11 Truth Movement

Written By Elizabeth Woodworth
February 17th, 2010

In the past year, in response to emerging independent science on the 9/11 attacks, nine corporate, seven public, and two independent media outlets aired analytic programs investigating the official account.

Increasingly, the issue is treated as a scientific controversy worthy of debate, rather than as a "conspiracy theory" ignoring science and common sense.
This essay presents these media analyses in the form of 18 case studies.

Eight countries – Britain, Canada, Denmark, France, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway and Russia – have allowed their publicly-owned broadcasting stations to air the full spectrum of evidence challenging the truth of the official account of 9/11.

India's Battle Against Monsanto Rages On

February 17th, 2010

A first hand report from the GMO battlefront, India.

For over six months now I have been deeply involved, as an ordinary citizen of India in waging a war against the attempts of seed companies like Monsanto to control our food. Add Bill Gates and you have got a powerful mix of people and companies who will stop at nothing. With that kind of money and political power it's next to impossible to stop.

Move Over China: Beijing Sells Whopping $34.2 Billion Treasuries In December As Japan Becomes Largest Official Holder Of US Debt

February 17th, 2010

Gradually we are getting confirmation that Chinese "posturing" about offloading US debt is all too real. The most recent TIC data confirmed the Treasury's greatest nightmare: China is now dumping US bonds. In December China sold $34.2 billion of debt ($38.8 billion in Bills sold offset by $4.6 billion in Bonds purchased), lowering its total holdings $755.4 billion, the lowest since February 2009, and for the first time in many years relinquishing the top US debt holder spot to Japan
